Nullification Now! Coming to Philadelphia
On March 31st the Tenth Amendment Center’s “Nullify Now” tour will come to the birthplace of freedom, Philadelphia. Dan Haggerty, co-host of The Baer/Haggerty Offensive on WNJC1360 AM will be keeping us informed of the ever increasing list of speakers and forums that will be available to all. Mark your calendar today for this very important event.
Those who remember the movie “Taxi Driver” can never forget Robert De Niro’s performance as Travis Bickle, the disaffected Vietnam Veteran who was repulsed by the social and cultural decline he saw on the streets of New York City but wasn’t sure what to do about it. Finally, determined to fight the decline around him, Travis says about himself “Here was a guy who would not take it anymore”…
Michael Boldin is a guy “Who would not take it anymore” and decided to fight the relentless encroachment by the Federal Government on the rights of American Citizens. So in 2006 he founded the Tenth Amendment Center.
Since its founding in Los Angeles, the TAC has promoted strict adherence to the original intent of the constitution as written by the founders. As their motto has it: The Constitution. Every issue. Every time. No exceptions. No Excuses.
Few of us realize that as it was written the Constitution severely restricts the powers of the federal government while leaving the states relatively free to experiment with the power of governance within their borders. The powers of Washington are few and strictly enumerated, while the rights of the states are given priority. As the tenth amendment says, powers not explicitly given to the Federal government “…are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people”.
It is clear to any serious student of history, and probably to the average citizen that the federal government has long exceeded the powers delegated to it by the constitution.
But what to do about it?
The dominant political-educational-media complex in this country has continually diluted and distorted the meaning of our constitution since it was ratified. But now a serious reactionary movement has developed with the goal of restoring the proper balance between the states and the federal government.
An important part of this movement began in 2010, when the TAC inaugurated the Nullify Now! tour. Like a travelling political road show, the Nullify Now! tour has crisscrossed the country. These presentations expose the metastasizing power of Washington and present the concept of Nullification as the State’s rightful remedy for over-reaching by the federal government.
On Saturday March 31st, the Nullify Now tour comes to Philadelphia, and this promises to be the best Nullify Now! event ever, if for no other reason than Philadelphia being the obvious and most historically relevant city in which to conduct this event. There are over a dozen speakers scheduled to present that day including some rock stars of the conservative-libertarian freedom movement. These include Thomas E. Woods, whose book Nullification shows the way for states to reassert their constitutional rights against the Federal government and Sheriff Richard Mack who has striven for Freedom since the days of the Clinton Administration when he successfully fought the Brady Bill all the way to the Supreme Court. Other prominent speakers are to be announced soon.
There are others who will speak that day, including local luminaries who will cover many topics relating to state’s rights vs. Washington and how states must resist Federal tyranny and interpose between the states and Washington on behalf of their citizens.
About a year ago some friends and I attended Nullify Now! in Concord, New Hampshire. It’s hard to describe the event except to say that its part political seminar, part flea market, and part revival meeting. The atmosphere is exciting; while the speakers present to the audience there are dozens of display tables along the sidelines showcasing a variety of patriotically themed items for sale from hard-to-find political books, tapes and DVD’s to assortments of flags, t-shirts, and a smattering of survivalist wares. Groups like the John Birch Society, Oathkeepers and others are usually present. Several gunsmiths were prominent at the New Hampshire event and local radio stations and podcasters covered the event live. If the topic of a particular speaker is not of interest, there are plenty of things to peruse at these display tables.
Philadelphia Nullify Now! is going to be so large that several breakout sessions are planned on specialized topics related to Nullification and the Constitution.
The best part of the event is the networking opportunity. It is vitally important for us to establish and maintain contact with others in the patriot movement. In New Hampshire we connected with several groups that regularly keep us informed on events in the Granite State. This is the perfect opportunity to enlarge your network of fellow patriots.
Remember also that while Travis Bickle resorted to violence to restore decency to the mean streets of New York, we who would restore our constitution hope to do so without violence and through democratic methods such as Nullify Now! events. Philadelphia is the historic birthplace of the sacred document we are trying to uphold and protect, therefore I urge all Tea Party and patriot groups in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland to make the effort to come to Nullify Now!, show the rest of the country what the Mid-Atlantic patriot movement is made of and make this historic constitutional effort the best attended Nullify Now event ever.

”…That the several states who formed that instrument, [the Constitution] being sovereign and independent, have the unquestionable right to judge of its infraction; and, That a nullification, by those sovereignties, of all unauthorized acts done under color of that instrument, is the rightful remedy…” -Thomas Jefferson
