Governor Christie is Popular at RightOnline

good-christieAs I continue to make new conservative friends from around the country, it is remarkable that once others find out I’m from New Jersey, one of two questions are next:

It goes something like this…

“Your Governor is Great”, I love your Governor”, Your Governor is showing them how to do it right”,

And then that is followed up with one of the following:

“Is Christie going to jump into the Presidential Race?”

and surprisingly…

“Christie is showing those unions, how did he get a deal like that in New Jersey?”

That is surprising because it is just happening.  It seems there are indeed a lot of conservatives across the country watching Governor Christie’s actions, at least how they are reported nationally.

I hope you’re straightening them out.

I’m surprised they ask the second question, what are you telling them?

I don’t want to throw too much cold water on governor Christie’s ascension as a conservative icon, but frankly I don’t see it. He continually fails to take a hard stand in support of the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America. That doesn’t seem to be very “conservative” to me. In light of the recent Supreme Court decisions in Heller and McDonald strongly supporting the fact that the Second Amendment does indeed guarantee an INDIVIDUAL right to keep and bear arms that applies equally to the state and local government, I would expect strong support from a conservative governor. Instead all we hear is the governor side-stepping the issue by blaming it on the Legislature. This is a dodge. The Governor was not shy about issuing Executive Order 47 which exempts certain agencies from the dictates of the Open Public Records Act. My organization has had to sue to get the Superior Court to issue an Order to Show Cause as to why the public should not have access to the State Police Firearms Application Processing Guide. This lack of access interferes with our ability to ensure that NJ towns comply with the State Mandates with regard to the processing of these applications. INDEED, the governor could easily issue an executive order directing the Attorney General to accept SELF-DEFENSE as a justifiable need to grant all law-abiding persons the right to carry a concealed handgun for protection, but that he will not do. So… conservative, I have EXTREME reservations.

  3. Rob:

I am sure that you will help them see the light.

  4. Frank Fiamingo says:

Well Rob… I am not hiding my light under the proverbial bushel basket, but on the other hand I won’t go so far as to say that I “light up a room”. :-)

In a mixed metaphor that moves from light to sound at the speed of molasses - quite often I feel as if all I keep hearing is the sound of my own voice echoing in a deep, dark cavern. :-)

  5. Rob Eichmann says:

It has lead to entertaining discussions. Most end with the other people saying

“I didn’t know that”, or That’s very different than how he comes off on your tube.”

It certainly shows the power of social media.
